By YouthBuild Mexico
Youth opportunity It is the positive way of referring to young people between 15 and 29 years old who are resilient, creative and have problem-solving skills, who have lived in adverse contexts that create structural barriers to their development, and who, by having an opportunity for social, educational and work inclusion in decent conditions, begin a process of social mobility and contribute to the country's economic growth.
At YouthBuild Mexico, we take up the initiative of the global networks in which we participate to contribute to a change in the narrative when referring to youth. After decades of work accompanying this young population, we are convinced that the negative stigmas imposed by the adult world such as ninis, the crystal generation or marzipan, only contribute to more marginalization and exclusion, or to assistance actions that do not promote real transformation.
Name young opportunity It has led us to a constant exercise of recognizing the potential and capabilities they have, to have a different perspective and to build, together with them, paths that make their growth, their constant learning and the improvement of their lives and communities possible.
If we take them seriously, chance, this young generation will be fine and our societies will be much better. We are committed to a more equitable society, incorporating into its economic and social development young opportunity.
From YouthBuild Mexico, as an active part of the Alliance for Youth with Decent Work and the Global Network of Youth Opportunity in Mexico City, we are committed to these actions:
-
Changing the narrative. No more stigmas and discriminatory practices towards youth.
To support, with empathy and respect, young people in developing skills and competencies that will enable them to access a decent life and work.
-
Partnering with the employer sector to invest in young people in their pre-employment journeys, defining positions in line with the required skills and thus finding the talent required to reduce job turnover.
-
Create flexible ways for young people to complete their High School Education while preparing for a job with decent conditions.
-
Propose changes to ensure an effective youth public policy, with government programs to promote economic inclusion and youth employability opportunities.
