On the occasion of International Youth Day, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) released a statement (on August 7) outlining the employment outlook for young people, based on information from the first quarter of 2025 from the National Employment and Occupation Survey (ENOE).
Some of the data revealed are:
As of the first quarter of 2025, a total of 30.4 million people were aged 15 to 29; 51.0 million women and 49.0 million men. According to age, 37.0 million were aged 15 to 19; 33.1 million were aged 20 to 24; and 29.9 million were aged 25 to 29.
Of young people, 15.9 million (52.3 %) were economically active and 14.5 million (47.7 %) did not carry out any economic activity.
85.9 % of young people outside the economic activity were not available to work, a situation more common in women (87.3 %) than in men (83.6 %).
Regarding their schooling, 39.8% of the % population had basic education; 39.0% of the % population had upper secondary education; 20.0% of the % population had higher education; and 1.1% of the % population had no formal education.
