National Youth Dialogue Committee

Umi Sadiki Shee is a passionate and dedicated social worker and community development professional with over seven years of experience in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), youth empowerment, and advocacy. Her unwavering commitment to advancing youth-led development and building sustainable and equitable communities has made her a prominent leader in Mombasa County and beyond.

Throughout her career, Umi has consistently championed the voices of young people. She has actively served on youth advisory groups, playing a key role in influencing programs and policies that directly affect young people. Her advocacy has created spaces for young people to be heard, included, and empowered in decision-making processes.

Facing challenges, embracing change

Like many leaders working at the grassroots level, Umi has faced her share of challenges. One of the most pressing issues in Mombasa's leadership landscape has been the deeply ingrained stereotypes and blame-shifting among community leaders, which often hinder collaboration and progress.

However, a turning point came when Umi connected with ACSAP-KE's Transformational Leadership Training, thanks to the support of Mohammed Talib, president of the Mombasa County Students Association (MUCSA). Over the course of an intensive week, Umi participated in thought-provoking discussions, hands-on leadership activities, and reflection sessions that challenged her perspectives and refined her approach to leadership.

“The training allowed me to rediscover my purpose as a leader,” says Umi. “I returned home ready to lead with vision, inspire others, and drive sustainable impact.”

National leadership and continuous service

Today, Umi is proud to be a member of the National Youth Dialogue Committee under Group 1, where she continues to advocate for youth-led solutions to community challenges. In this national role, she brings the same dedication and vision that have defined her grassroots work.

Umi is committed to leading with heart, inspiring change, and building inclusive, youth-centered communities. Her journey is a testament to the power of transformative leadership, community engagement, and the belief that young people are not only beneficiaries but also drivers of sustainable development.
