{"id":5977,"date":"2024-10-17T21:04:13","date_gmt":"2024-10-18T03:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/?post_type=noticias&#038;p=5977"},"modified":"2024-10-25T18:56:21","modified_gmt":"2024-10-26T00:56:21","slug":"participacion-juvenil-en-los-procesos-de-gobernanza-la-experiencia-de-la-ciudad-de-mexico","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/en\/noticias\/participacion-juvenil-en-los-procesos-de-gobernanza-la-experiencia-de-la-ciudad-de-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth participation in governance processes: the experience of Mexico City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right\"><strong>By Karla Ambrosio and Fernanda Rivera<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><strong>Global Opportunity Youth Network, Mexico City<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Youth Participation and Challenges in Mexico<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Civil society in Mexico is interested in participating in public decision-making, but youth inclusion remains a challenge.<\/li>\n<li>Young people are generally excluded from these processes, and a more collaborative relationship needs to be forged between them and the government.<\/li>\n<li>The new head of government of Mexico City has promoted a youth agenda, but institutional changes are still needed to involve young people in policy-making.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cYouth with Opportunity\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In Mexico City there are 2.35 million young people between 15 and 29 years old considered \u201cyouth with opportunity.\u201d<br \/>Of this group, 543,000 are outside the education system and unemployed, and 71% are women.<\/li>\n<li>Despite structural challenges, when provided with opportunities, these young people can overcome barriers and contribute to economic growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cFor Youth\u201d to \u201cBy Youth\u201d in the Global Network of Youth with Opportunity<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) was launched in Mexico City in 2021, with the support of global actors such as the Aspen Institute and the Hilton Foundation.<\/li>\n<li>GOYN works to improve economic opportunities for youth through partnerships and collaborative programs.<br \/>A Youth Advisory Group (YAG) was key in ensuring that GOYN initiatives were youth-led.<\/li>\n<li>In 2022, the YAG strengthened its role in strategic planning and helped define key focus areas such as job opportunities and youth representation in decision-making.<\/li>\n<li>In 2023, YAG joined GOYN&#039;s Board of Directors and Advocacy Committee, launching platforms such as JuventudES and J\u00f3venes X el Emprendimiento, focused on employability and youth entrepreneurship.<\/li>\n<li>The first course on \u201cAdvocacy for Youth Employability in Mexico\u201d was organized as part of the Youth Advocacy Laboratory project, led by Citizen Initiative.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Advocating for a Public Policy Agenda for Youth with Opportunity<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2024, the YAG presented its Public Policy Agenda for Youth with Opportunity, focused on decent employment, technical education and entrepreneurship.<\/li>\n<li>The YAG highlights that current public policies have limited scope, which affects their effectiveness and exacerbates inequality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Innovation is not only possible, it is inevitable<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The YAG has driven local policy changes, facilitating initiatives that have shaped government policies for youth.<\/li>\n<li>However, there is still a need to ensure that policies are fully implemented to improve social and economic inclusion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"imagen_principal_b":"http:\/\/juventudes.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/jet-engine-forms\/27\/2024\/10\/FOTO-Meaningfull_Youth_Engagment.jpg"},"categories":[40],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5977","noticias","type-noticias","status-publish","hentry","category-participacion-y-politica-democracia"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/noticias\/5977","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/noticias"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/noticias"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/10"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5977"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5977"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/juventudes.mx\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5977"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
